WhatsApp Business Platform: a guide to grow your business

WhatsApp Business Platform

With new terms popping out from various sources of information about WhatsApp Business, such as WhatsApp Business Platform, WhatsApp Business App, WhatsApp Business API, and WhatsApp Cloud API, it can all be a little confusing.

Worry no more; let SleekFlow explain all you need to know about the WhatsApp Business Platform and how to differentiate it from the other WhatsApp Business terms.

What is WhatsApp Business Platform?

WhatsApp Business Platform is a programming language interface which includes the on-premise WhatsApp Business API, WhatsApp Cloud API, and the WhatsApp Business Management API

It is a paid solution that allows businesses to connect with customers on WhatsApp at scale, consisting of a collection of APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that allows businesses to build custom integrations and automate customer interactions on a messaging platform.

With the WhatsApp platform for business, brands can send and receive messages on a large scale, automate marketing, sales and customer service, and track key metrics such as message delivery and read rates.

It is designed for larger businesses and enterprise companies that need to handle a large volume of customer communication and have a more complex business process.

Businesses can also use the WhatsApp Business API to integrate WhatsApp with their existing systems, including CRM software such as Salesforce and HubSpot and e-commerce platforms such as Shopify.

Choosing between WhatsApp Business Platform vs. WhatsApp Business App depends on the specific needs and use cases of your brand. Here are some factors to consider when making the decision:

1. Volume of messages

If your business needs to handle a high volume of messages and automate customer service, WhatsApp Business Platform is the better option. It allows businesses to use APIs to integrate WhatsApp messaging platform into their existing systems and automate responses to common customer queries.

2. Personalization and two-way communication

If your business wants to communicate with customers on a more personal level, WhatsApp Business App is the better option. It allows businesses to create a verified business account and engage in two-way communication with customers, as well as providing features such as quick replies, labels, filters, and chat buttons. You can also automate personalized messages without copying and pasting each message manually.

3. Automation

WhatsApp Business Platform offers more automation features compared to the WhatsApp Business App. With WhatsApp Business Platform you can set up chatbots, automatic messages, bulk messages, responses to frequently asked questions, quick replies, and message templates.

4. Integration

WhatsApp Business Platform allows businesses to integrate the platform with their existing systems, such as e-commerce systems, CRM software, and customer service platforms. Customer details such as lead stage and order history can be viewed right next to the chatbox.

5. Budget

WhatsApp Business App is free to use, while WhatsApp Business Platform may have conversation fees depending on country, the volume of messages, and subscription fees from your WhatsApp Business Solution Provider (BSP).

WhatsApp Business Platform pricing

The WhatsApp Business Platform pricing is divided into 2 parts: conversation fees and provider subscription fees.

Conversation fees for WhatsApp Business Platform

The conversation fees are charged depending on the number and type of conversations exchanged on the WhatsApp Business Platform:

1. Business-initated conversations

A business-initiated conversation starts when businesses reach out to the customers by sending a message. Only Template Messages can be used for this type of conversation, and they will need to be sent to WhatsApp for approval before they can be used. Business-initiated conversations are also subdivided into:

  • Utility conversations

  • Authentication conversations

  • Marketing conversations

Different fees will be applied for these conversations, and businesses can be charged for two distinctive conversations if Template Messages of each conversation type are sent within the same 24 hour window.

For more detailed information about WhatsApp Business Platform pricing from June 2023, read our complete guide.

2. User-initiated conversations

A user-initiated conversation begins when messages are sent to reply to customers. This means that the customer is the one who sent your business a message first. For this type of conversation, businesses can send free-form messages instead of just Template Messages.

Each conversation, no matter the type, can have as many messages as possible as long as the customer replies and interacts with your business within the 24-hour timeframe. However, if the customer does not reply to you within the 24-hour window, you will have to begin a new conversation with a Template Message.

The conversation fees for your WhatsApp Business Platform pricing also depend on the country in which your business is sending these WhatsApp messages:
